He is Still On The Throne

So obviously, things in our world have been crazy right now. On top of Covid, Ukraine has been invaded by Russia. I don’t know about all of you, but I definitely was not prepared for this.

Because of this, social media has been flooded with messages of support and encouragement, trying to keep spirits lifted during these dark times. I follow a small business on Instagram called the “Clothed in Love Boutique”. My sisters and I have bought from them from time to time and I love them (you should definitely check them out). And when everyone on social media was freaking out, they posted a simple post- four slides, black background, white cursive lettering.

The first slide read “God is still on the throne”, the second “Jesus brings peace in the midst of chaos”, the third “Prayer changes things”, and the fourth “God isn’t surprised. In fact, He already has a solution to the problem”. And while I really loved what all of them said, the first one hit me really hard.

Because God IS still on the throne. We’ve been through a lot in the past two years- Covid, protests, riots, and now this- and it is soo easy to forget that God is still on His throne. He is still in control. He is still a good, even when it is easy to think that because our lives are falling down around us, God must be falling down too. No. He is still good- and He is still God! Tying into the last slide, not only is He still on His throne, He also knows exactly how this is all going to end. He knows exactly what is going to happen next, even as we panic peering into the mist that is the future. This invasion and war does not surprise Him. He knew it was going to happen- and He has a purpose for it. Everything that our God does (which is literally everything in the Universe) has a purpose and a meaning behind it, even though we might not see it right now.

This seems huge right now- and it definitely is. I am in no way taking away from how serious this is or negating how bad it is. But like I said- God already knew. He already knows what is going to happen because of this. He knows how it is going to affect our lives. And yes, this seems really huge. But in comparison to what God is going to do with this and how He is going to use this to change us and shape us and bring the glory to Him? This is nothing.

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and future.'” Jeremiah 29:11

God was not kidding when He said this. He knows exactly what is going to happen next and He has a plan (and let’s be honest- it’s probably a lot better than anything we can think of). He will always ALWAYS do what is best for us, even if we can’t see what that might be right now. As we look at the dark circumstances around us, it is so easy to forget that we aren’t the ones in control- and the One who is in control has a plan that is so much better than ours that we can’t even begin to fathom it.

I was listening to the song “Famous For” By Tauren Wells and Jenn Johnson (linked at the top), and I felt like it was pretty relevant to what was going on in our world right now.

It starts out with

There is no fear ’cause I believe
There is no doubt ’cause I have seen
Your faithfulness, my fortress
Over and over

We do not need to fear for the future because we believe in a God who loves us and who will not forget about us. He is our fortress- who can stand against us when we are in the hand of God?

I have a hope found in Your name
I have a strength found in Your grace
Your faithfulness, my fortress
Over and over

In God, we can have a hope and strength that is so far beyond anything we could ever experience on our own. He gives us hope and strength to look at this difficult circumstances and say “God, I may not know what you are doing, but I know you are going to turn this around and something amazing is going to happen because of it”. Even if that amazing thing doesn’t happen in our lifetime.

Make way through the waters
Walk me through the fire
Do what You are famous for
What You are famous for
Shut the mouths of lions
Bring dry bones to life and
Do what You are famous for
What You are famous for
I believe in You, God
I believe in You

We have a God who makes way through waters. Who literally walks us through fires. Who shuts the mouths of lions. WHO RAISES PEOPLE FROM THE DEAD. And you think that He will not bring something good out of this? He is a crazy amazing God who has done all of the above and more- and could do it again if He wanted to.

God of exceedingly, God of abundantly
More than we ask or think
Lord, You will never fail
Your name is powerful, Your word’s unstoppable
All things are possible in You
God of exceedingly (oh), God of abundantly (oh)
More than we ask or think (oh)
Lord, You will never fail (never fail, no)
Your name is powerful (oh), Your word’s unstoppable (unstoppable)
All things are possible in You

God does more than we could ever ask for- more than we could ever even think of. He goes above and beyond our expectations because that is who He is- He is not small, He is not weak, He does not sleep. He is God- and He is a good and loving God who will make a way through this, even though we cannot see it right now.

He is going to do what He is famous for. One way or another. Whether we see it right now or not.

As you can tell, I have some very passionate feelings about this and it is very hard for me not to be able to do more- scream my feelings from the rooftops and give light to everyone in this world. I really wish I could. But for now, I’ll settle for my little corner of the world.

And no, I am not the one walking through fire right now. I’m safe in my house in Ohio- I am fully aware of that. I am not the one in danger. I am not the one with my life being threatened. But my brothers and sisters in Christ are. And that means something to me- it would mean something to me whether or not they were my brothers and sisters in Christ or not, but especially because they are.

I may not be able to do much that the world will recognize right now, but I will be praying. That is more powerful than anything that this world can do. And I’ll be praying to the God who hears me and every other Christian crying out around the world.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33.
