Thanksgiving!

Well, I know what everyone is thinking- it’s Thanksgiving, which means that in just a few hours, we can FINALLY talk about Christmas!

And believeeee me- I’m the first person to say “Christmas!!!!”

But this year, I’m trying to live in the moment and not be constantly racing ahead to the next thing and the next thing and the next thing. I want to be able to enjoy each moment as it comes. So this year, I’m trying really hard not to be waiting in drudgery for Christmas to come. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still counting down the days and wishing that it was here. But I’m not sad about how my life is going to be until it gets here. So if you’re anything like me, I’d encourage you to do the same.

Because Thanksgiving is still very important. Does it have a less than great beginning? Yes. A lot of people can debate about whether or not we should celebrate Thanksgiving, because of the oppression of Native Americans in the US when the Pilgrims first came, etc.

But I honestly could not care less about how this tradition began or what its original intentions were. It is a day dedicated to being thankful for the blessings in our lives, and for what God has given us. Why would we not take advantage of that? Obviously, we should be thankful everyday, and always be counting our blessings. But it definitely does not hurt to have a day to gather with the people we care about, eat amazing food that God has provided for us, and dwell on just how many blessings God has given us. Even if we didn’t gather with the people we loved, and didn’t eat the amazing food, Thanksgiving would still be amazing. We would still be giving thanks to our Savior. It would still be incredibly important. And I think that that is something we should be focusing on.

And of course, if we still want to be anticipating Christmas, we can do it by giving thanks to the Lord that He came down and was born in a manger for us :))

So this year, let us not only be excited for Christmas that is coming, but also be joyful for Thanksgiving that is here!! (And with all of that said: tomorrow marks only ONE MONTH until Christmas!!!)
