Fall Semester!

As of today, my fall semester of college is officially underway! I am officially a sophomore in college this year, but this will be my fourth year of college classes. I took classes for both my junior and senior years of high school so at this point, you would think I had the whole thing down, right?

Well, not exactly. I tend to go into every semester with very little planning or goals about how I want to do things and what I want to prioritize. I don’t set a good routine before the semester starts and then when it starts, I feel like I am floundering. And after coming off of a summer where operating on a strict routine was a huge part of my life, I have struggled being home with nothing to do. Which means now that I have the opportunity to set a good routine, I want to. I want to make goals for this semester about what each day is going to hold and what I am going to prioritize.

So what are my fall semester goals? Well, most of them are just more specific repeats of my foals for the year, but they are still very important. So here they are!

  1. I’m going to study efficiently and get good grades. When I’m doing my school and studying, I am going to be focused rather than getting distracted, as I do so easily.
  2. I’m going to prioritize balancing work, school, and my personal life- with joy. When classes start, I typically end up immersing myself in school and forcing myself to go to work because it is necessary. I don’t end up enjoying my classes, I just stress about them. I don’t enjoy work, because I’m usually so tired from my classes or thinking about my classes, that I don’t have any energy to actually find the positive things. And I hardly ever see my friends during school, even on the weekends, because I still lack the energy to make plans. So this semester, I want to find a healthy balance between the three so that I can do all three with joy and contentment.
  3. I’m going to spend time outside as much as possible. Whether it is studying outside or going on hikes or walks, I want to spend time outside in God’s beautiful creation as much as I can.
  4. I want to spend dedicated time with God every day. Over the summer, we as staff had time every day set aside for “God and I Time”. It deepened my relationship with Christ in so many ways and I believe, more than I ever have before, that it is important to prioritize that every day. My hope would be to wake up on time every morning, eat breakfast, and then spend time with God before doing school or going to work. That is something that I have determined to be a non-negotiable in my life.
  5. I want to spend less time on my phone and more time being present. Whether that means being present with my family or friends, or being present while doing my school and at work, that is another important thing that I want to prioritize. I spent significantly less time on my phone this summer- mostly because I didn’t have data or wifi, but also because I didn’t have time- and that is a habit I would like to return to.
  6. I am going to exercise in some way at least five days a week. If that means going to the gym, going for a run or walk, working out at home, or just stretching and keeping active in some way, that’s what I’ll do. It will vary based on the day but it is something that I want to make sure to fit in somehow.
  7. I want to write consistently as many days as possible both on my book or here on my blog. Either way, I want to be writing as much as possible and continuing to put content out consistently.
  8. Finally, I want to read a bit every day. Even if it is only for a couple minutes each day, I want to read a bit. Reading has always been one of my favorite hobbies and I seem to lose it every single semester. It is something that relaxes me, so you would think that in a time of lots of stress, I would do the hobby that relaxes me a lot. Well, it never quite turns out that way. But this semester, I want to get back into it.

So there are my fall semester goals! I am hoping that I will be able to stick to them fairly well but I will let you know in December how it all turns out!
